                                                          Generation No. 1.

John2 Green (?1) was born 10 Feb 1818 in Gainesboro, Jackson Co., TN, USA, and died 18 May 1879 in Gainesboro, Jackson Co., TN, USA. He married Mary Ann Davidson 01 Oct 1850 in Gainesboro, Jackson Co., TN, USA, daughter of Ike Davidson and Anna Clark. She was born 24 Dec 1828 in Jackson Co., TN, USA, and died 25 Jan 1887 in Gainesboro, Jackson Co., TN, USA.

Notes for John Green:

Information from Jackson County, TN Family History sent to us by Charlene Carver McClain, from FAMILIES OF JACKSON COUNTY, TN, a book.

The Green family came to America from Ireland. Family tradition says that John Green's brother, Thomas Green, brought the family's inheritance in gold in the bottom of his saddle bags as a whetstone peddler. The whetstones were used to disguise and coverup for the weight and fullness of his saddle bags.

(This must have been at least one generation back from John and Thomas, maybe more, as they are listed in all Census records as being born in Tennessee.)

The John Green family left Gainesboro and moved to Haydenburg, Tennessee by or before 1875. It was in Haydenburg that sixteen year old Leatha Melinda met Jacob B. L. Johnson and married him. John and Mary Ann Davidson Green are buried in the John Green / Cassetty Cemetery on Haydenburg Ridge, Jackson County, Tennessee. Where the Ward Fork Creek Road intersects the Haydenburg road, there is a Brick home on the East side of the road belonging to Craighead family and the cemetery is in a grove of persimmon trees just East of the barn. Their graves were first marked by four pine trees planted by their daughter Leatha Melinda green Johnson about 1915. Four tall pines were seen by Ruth Alleyne Halford Gammill in 1945. Ruth's granddaughter, Trudy Lynn Gammill Whitt saw four big stumps there in 1975. Trudy, Ruth and other descendants found one stump in 1994. A tombstone was to be placed there in 1995 (probably by Trudy Gammill Whitt).

In 1936 the land was owned by Joe ray and his wife Ella Carver Ray. Mrs. Ray a granddaughter of Addison lives near by. tradition has it that General Bragg's Army camped during the War in the bottoms along the creek and so the church received the name "Camp Ground Meeting House."
